Firmware Release: LEX2000_FW_v4.6
Firmware Release Date: Sep 10, 2012

=========================================
Firmware Update Installation Instructions - Revised on Oct 11, 2012
=========================================
The LEX2000 supports two methods of installing firmware updates:
  * Load from rear panel SD card by power-cycling the unit
  * Load from local file using the LEX2000 internal web pages

* NOTE - Updating firmware should not affect the user configuration settings
in the LEX2000 unit. However, it is always a good idea to save the
user configuration settings to a file before updating the firmware,
so that they may be reloaded after the update if necessary.

* IMPORTANT: DO NOT INSTALL THIS FIRMWARE UPDATE ON LEX2000 UNITS RUNNING FIRMWARE
VERSIONS PRIOR TO v4.2. LEX2000 UNITS RUNNING FIRMWARE PRIOR TO v4.2
MUST FIRST INSTALL v4.2 or v.4.4.1 BEFORE UPDATING FIRMWARE to v4.6.

SEE THE FIRMWARE UPDATE RECOMMENDATIONS BELOW FOR INFORMATION ON
UPDATING LEX UNITS RUNNING FIRMWARE PRIOR TO v4.6.

CURRENT VERSION RECOMMENDED FIRMWARE UPDATE SEQUENCE
              --------------- ------------------------------------
v3.3, v3.4 Update to v4.1, Reboot the encoder
Update to v4.4.1, Reboot the encoder
Update to v4.6, Reboot the encoder

v4.0, v4.1 Update to v4.4.1, Reboot the encoder
Update to v4.6, Reboot the encoder

              v4.2, v4.4, v4.4.1 Update to v4.6, Reboot the encoder

NOTE: Once firmware v4.6 is installed on the LEX encoder,
all future firmware updates are expected to install
directly without the need for sequential updates.
ALL LEX encoders must install firmware v4.6 prior to
installing any firmware version released after v4.6.

* WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE POWER OR SWITCH POWER OFF DURING THE FIRMWARE UPDATE
======= PROCESS. LOSS OF POWER DURING THE FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCESS MAY
RENDER THE UNIT INOPERABLE OR PARTIALLY UPDATED.

* NOTE: After the firmware update process has begun, its progress may be monitored
by viewing the Firmware Update Status window on the Update web page.

-----------------------------------------------
Preparing an SD Memory Card for Firmware Update
-----------------------------------------------
* Begin with a blank SD memory card, formatted with a FAT32 file system

* Copy the firmware update file LEX2000_FW_0406.bin to the SD card

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Firmware Update Method 1: Rear Panel SD Card and Power-Cycling the Unit
------------------------------------------------------------------------
0. Verify that the LEX2000 unit is running firmware version 4.2 or later.

1. Insert SD card into the SD Card Slot on the rear panel of the LEX2000 unit.

2. Switch the unit's power OFF and then ON to restart the unit.

3. Wait for 20-30 minutes.

During the update process, the LEX2000 front panel LED's should exhibit
   the following behavior:

3.1. The SYSTEM LED is solid YELLOW (ORANGE)

        IMPORTANT:
If the SYSTEM LED changes to RED during the firmware update process,
the unit has detected a problem and is reloading firmware in a
recovery process. DO NOT SWITCH OFF POWER to the unit or interrupt
this process. Once the SYSTEM LED turns RED, the firmware update
process will take longer than 20-30 minutes, but the process should
complete without user intervention. If the SYSTEM LED is still RED
after two hours, then call technical support for assistance.

3.2. The INPUT and OUTPUT LED's blink GREEN repeatedly to indicate various
stages of the firmware update process, as defined in the user manual.

3.3. After at least 20 minutes has elapsed since the process began,
the SYSTEM LED blinks GREEN rapidly and the INPUT and OUTPUT
LED's are off. When this state is observed for at least one minute,
the update process has completed successfully.

4. ONLY AFTER THE SYSTEM LED BLINKS GREEN AS DESCRIBED IN 3.3 ABOVE,
INDICATING SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCESS...

Leave the SD Card in the rear panel SD Card socket of the LEX2000 unit and
switch the unit's power OFF and then ON to restart the LEX2000 unit.

4.1. If the LEX2000 unit's SYSTEM LED is solid Yellow (ORANGE) after the power-cycle
restart, then the firmware update has been unsuccessful. Leave the SD
card in the rear and go to step 3, above, repeating this process until
the SYSTEM LED blinks GREEN rapidly. The LEX2000 unit may repeat the firmware
update process multiple times until it is successful, requiring 15 to 25
minutes to complete each update attempt.

4.2. If the LEX2000 unit's SYSTEM LED is solid GREEN after the power-cycle restart,
then the firmware update has been successfully completed. The user should be
able to access the LEX2000 user configuration web pages and see that firmware
        version is 4.6.

5. Remove the SD card from the rear panel SD Card socket.

6. Check the user configuration settings on the LEX2000 web pages. The firmware update
process does not affect most user configuration settings, but it is recommended that
the user review the configuration settings before returning the unit to service.

7. The LEX2000 unit may be returned to service.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Firmware Update Method 2: Local File Using the LEX2000's SYSTEM-UPDATE Web Page
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
0. Verify that the LEX2000 unit is running firmware version 4.2 or later.

1. Using an internet browser, such as Internet Explorer, log into the LEX2000's
   internal user configuration web pages.

2. Browse to the SYSTEM - UPDATE web page (Click on the SYSTEM tab, then the
   UPDATE tab)

3. Find the LOAD FIRMWARE UPDATE field on the left side of the web page.

4. Click on the Browse button under "LOAD FIRMWARE UPDATE" and identify the firmware
update file received from Linear, named LEX2000_FW_0406.bin. After selecting the
firmware update file using the browse dialog box, the path name should appear in
the gray box to the left of the browse button.

5. Click on the button named "LOAD & APPLY FIRMWARE UPDATE"

During the update process, the LEX2000 front panel LED's should exhibit
   the following behavior:

5.2. The INPUT and OUTPUT LED's blink GREEN repeatedly to indicate various
stages of the firmware update process, as defined in the user manual.

5.3. After at least 20 minutes has elapsed since the process began,
the SYSTEM LED blinks GREEN rapidly and the INPUT and OUTPUT
LED's are off. When this state is observed for at least one minute,
the update process has completed successfully.

6. ONLY AFTER THE SYSTEM LED BLINKS GREEN AS DESCRIBED IN 5.3 ABOVE,
INDICATING SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCESS...

Switch the unit's power OFF and then ON to restart the LEX2000 unit.

7. Check the user configuration settings on the LEX2000 web pages. The firmware update
process does not affect most user configuration settings, but it is recommended that
the user review the configuration settings before returning the unit to service.

8. The LEX2000 unit may be returned to service.
